VIDEO: Shangri-La Hotel Debuts Virtual Reality Headset

Shangri-La Hotel Chain is set to debut its virtual reality (VR) headset to allow guests to experience its luxurious properties in real time. This VR tool will make it possible for potential visitors to experience the group’s hotels and resorts as if they were actually inside the premises of those properties. Half of the hotel chain’s portfolio will have this VR headset ready by January next year with the remaining sets to be supplied and distributed and completed by the end of 2016.

This is the first luxury hotel chain that adopts virtual technology to make it easy for guests to make their booking decision. The VR headset will allow guests to virtually visit the properties in the group’s portfolio and get an almost real-life experience on how the hotel or the resort looks. Having this unique feature truly becomes a valuable and helpful tool that can help guests easily make a decision on whether to stay or not.

Shangri-La virtual reality experience will be powered by Oculus. With this technology, guests can get a better understanding and more information on what to expect at specific properties. This will come in handy for travel advisors, meeting planners and corporate clients who are tasked with the decision of choosing the perfect venue to hold their functions and activities such as conference, accommodations, and others.

According to Shangri-La International Hotel Management, Chief Marketing Officer, Steven Taylor, this VR technology is part of a content strategy aimed at lifting the status of Hong Kong-based hotel brand to be regarded as the forefront in hotel technology. (www.shangri-la.com)
